The Role

PeaceGeeks is a diverse and inclusive organization, as such we are looking for individuals who represent the diversity of Canada, including newcomers, indigenous communities, and racialized Canadians of all genders.

The successful candidate will understand the responsibilities of a not-for-profit board and, ideally, have experience serving on one. They will have strong financial acumen, a governance mindset, and an established track record working in a technology-driven or not-for-profit organization.

They will be knowledgeable of current issues and events locally and globally dealing with displaced populations and peace, along with a deep commitment to being part of a purpose-driven nonprofit working to build greater connection, safety, and peace for people who have been displaced.

Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Focus on the organization's governance, including evaluating the overall performance of PeaceGeeks based on the organization’s strategic plan and its outcomes.
  • Pro-active preparation and participation in regular committee meetings, board meetings, a yearly half-day board retreat, and AGM.
  • Assess the performance of the CEO and their compensation.
  • Identify and solicit potential donors.
  • Engage with members, donors, and key individuals/organizations to advance the organization’s mission.
  • Participate in semi-annual board education sessions.
  • A strong commitment to PeaceGeeks’ values, which include anti-racism, equity, the promotion of human rights, and gender equality.

  • Experience serving on Boards of Directors, either non-profit or corporate
  • Comprehensive expertise in human resources, finance, business, marketing, or tech sector
  • Ability to maintain an impartial and appropriate perspective at all times
  • Demonstrated standards of confidentiality and ethics
  • Knowledgeable about current issues and events locally and globally
  • Effective written and verbal communication capabilities

Location

Remote with quarterly meetings in Vancouver, BC. The Board Director will need to dedicate approximately 6-8 hours a month to PeaceGeeks by attending board meetings (held roughly six times a year), subcommittee meetings and fulfilling general board responsibilities, including:

  • Attend a minimum of 75% of meetings per year
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing meeting briefs and preassigned tasks/responsibilities ahead of the meeting
  • Participate in and/or lead one board committee at least once during their term

Board Directors are asked to commit to a minimum two-year term, with the option of reappointment at the end of the term to a maximum of three consecutive terms.
