Opportunity

PeaceGeeks is looking for a Treasurer to join its volunteer Board of Directors and support the organization in an important phase of growth.

The Role

PeaceGeeks is an international tech nonprofit based in Vancouver, Canada and Amman, Jordan that creates digital tools to support greater connection, peace and safety for those who have been displaced.

Founded in 2011, PeaceGeeks has grown from a grassroots volunteer group into a nonprofit leader in building technology for peace. For digital innovation to be an effective tool for social change, there is a need for tech that centres community-led practices, and honours the lived experiences of migrant and displaced communities. This also means identifying and repudiating "innovation" that reproduces racism and oppression.

PeaceGeeks is committed to a world where everyone can feel they belong. By aligning our tech savvy with the expertise of our partners and people who have been forcibly displaced, we work side-by-side to build digital tools to support every phase of their journey, building more peaceful societies, together.

This position is best suited to an individual who is willing to commit and contribute to PeaceGeeks, possesses a progressive interest in continuous improvement of non-profit governance, and is up to date with global issues and current events.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting activities, including the monthly review and approval of financial statements, expenses, and bank reconciliations. Assist with the preparation of the organizational budget and forecasts. Prepare and present the Finance Committee report at each board meeting. Contribute to the board’s governance of PeaceGeeks as well as its own operational effectiveness and continuing development.

What you'll bring to it
  • Governance skills and strategic thinking to a growing organization
  • Experience serving on Boards of Directors, either non-profit or corporate
  • Bachelor's degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation complemented with significant experience in a Financial Reporting, Treasurer or Financial Advisory capacity.

  • Comprehensive expertise in financial analysis and modelling
  • Ability to maintain an impartial and appropriate perspective at all times

  • Effective written and verbal communication capabilities
