Renee Black
Chief Executive Geek

Renee runs all of the things. As our fierce leader and tireless Executive Director, Renee co-founded PeaceGeeks in October 2011, leveraging her technology background towards peacebuilding, human rights and humanitarian response.

Among many things, Renee is in charge of managing the execution of PeaceGeeks' Strategic Plan, which includes developing project proposals, establishing strategic partnerships and overseeing core projects and teams. Renee's specialty lies in combining strategy and relationships, allowing her to seek out and unite the strengths of her fellow geeks and community partners to collaborate on and execute projects that are not only innovative but truly address the needs of communities that are at the heart of the issue.

Renee's experience includes over eight years as a Business Analyst and Project Manager in the private sector, focusing on software development and database marketing solutions. In 2009, Renee switched careers to work on the Women, Peace & Security framework with the United Nations and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders. Her experience with these organizations played a pivotal role in launching PeaceGeeks, pursuing her passion for empowering people to make positive change a lived reality. Renee holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Dalhousie University and a Masters of International Affairs (Hons) from the University of Ottawa. She is a Fellow of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
